Mabelle Laura Stadig, 92, of Rapid City passed away Saturday, at a local nursing home. She had served children of Rapid City 28 years as a kindergarten teacher, most of those years at Anne Tallent School in Robbinsdale.

Mabelle was born May 29, 1917 in Gloucester, MA, to Harvey and Eleanor Cameron. In 1935 she graduated from high school at Gloucester, then in 1938 from Perry Norman School in Boston, and finished her bachelors degree in 1968 at Black Hills State College. She began teaching second grade at Gloucester in 1938, then taught several years in Denver before coming to Rapid City Public Schools in 1958.

Mabelle became a member of First Wesleyan Church in Rapid City in 1968. She taught Sunday school there, sang with the church choir, and served various other ministries until health prevented her from attending. She also sang for a time with the Canyon Lake Senior Center Joyful Gals and Guys Chorus.

She is survived by four sons, Everett L. Stadig of Denver, CO, Lester R. Stadig and wife Carol of Lorton, VA, Gary C. Stadig of Minneapolis, MN, and Dennis H. Stadig of Rapid City, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her former husband Clifford H. Stadig, her parents, and two sisters.

In honor the years of service to elementary-age children of Rapid City, the family requests memorials are directed to Storybook Island in Rapid City. One of her final but most enjoyable outing was to the park last June where she watched as the wonder of nursery rhymes came alive for six of her great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:00 on Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, 202 E. St. Francis St., Rapid City, with Pastor Steve Selfridge officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
